After taking Lilybaeum, you now have 2/3 of Sicily taken and a relatively safe power base that does well economically, + the added advantage of having fenced in the Scipii for when the civil war starts much much later.Īt this point, you are in a much better position to take on both Greece and Macedon on the mainland, or alternatively you could focus on taking Carthage and the province just to the South of it then move on to Greece and Macedon. I usually hire some mercenray hoplites to take care of the elephants and minimise casualties among my regular troops. There's usually a large Carthaginian army roaming about Sicily but it shouldn't be too much of a problem. Your next target should be the Sicilian city owned by Carthage that I can't spell. Now after taking Syracuse, the Greeks will usually come to you for a ceasefire. I usually find that on medium difficulty the Scipii take a fair while to actually take it and even if they lay siege to it on their first turn they're usually beaten back, but this might not be the case at higher difficulty levels, so sorry for wasting your time if this is an obsolete tactic at the level you play at

What I would advise is to first take Apollonia then quickly send an army to Sicily to capture Syrcause. Whenever I go for Greece, the Macedonians always seem to lay siege to Apollonia and Salona which I can't afford to garrison while also fighting a war in the Peleponnese, but when I try and wipe out the Macedonians first, they usually ally themselves with Greece and I end up having two united enemies instead of two divided enemies, which, while overcomeable (don't think that's a word but oh well ), is pretty annoying for someone like me who prefers to blitz in the early game then build up later on. Here's what I do and it's worked so far, but then I play on M/ M so it might be alot harder to execute on the harder difficulty levels. I'd like to know everyone's personal beliefs and strategy on this one. So my strategy is to keep trade treaties going with the Greeks while I focus on taking out Macedon, then I turn on the Greeks conquering most of the Balkans. Second of all once I get my ports built up on the Adriatic, sea trade between my cities and the cities of Sparta and Thermon is very lucrative. I believe it is better to let the Greeks handle Corinth while I take the rest of Macedonia. First of all, I believe that Macedon is the weaker of the two factions, and Corinth is split off from the rest of Macedonia by the Greeks in Thermon and the rebels in Athens. I believe that I prefer going after the Macedons.

At that time however, I usually march north to capture Selona which is also under rebel control and has a mine. Now taking Thermon would declare war against the Greeks. In the Brutii Campaign, after I take Appolonia, the senate asks me to take Thermon.
